On this day, 24 years ago, our nation faced an unimaginable tragedy. The courage and selflessness of the first responders, including the 343 firefighters who gave their lives, stands as a lasting testament to the spirit of service and sacrifice.

As we honor their memory, we also remember the numerous other first responders and civilians who were lost or affected.

🔥 CALL TO ACTION: STAND WITH YOUR FIREFIGHTERS 🔥

📍 Camas City Council Meeting

🗓 Monday, August 4, 2025

🕖 7:00 PM | Camas City Hall

Join IAFF Local 2444 and your neighbors as we demand real leadership and accountability.

Camas leadership is preparing to unveil their financial plan for the Regional Fire Authority (RFA). Based on what’s already on the agenda, we know this much: a proposed $0.69 levy reduction will guarantee the RFA fails—and with it, the future of our fire department.

For decades, city leadership has played shell games with fire department funding, ignoring consultants, underfunding essential services, and prioritizing pet projects over your safety. The consequences? CWFD is now at the breaking point.

This latest proposal will:

⚠️ Disband the Camas-Washougal Fire Department

⚠️ Cause firefighter layoffs

⚠️ Reduce emergency services

⚠️ Prove that corruption and mismanagement go unpunished in Camas

This is a betrayal of public trust.

The community has always supported its fire department. It’s time for city leadership to do the same—or be held accountable.

🚨 We need a packed council chamber. Let’s make it clear: Camas residents will not sit quietly while public safety is sacrificed.

✊ Demand better. Demand safety. Demand leadership.

Stand with your firefighters. Stand with your community.

Meet Kai, our newest and cutest recruit!

Kai is beginning her journey within the fire service with a mission to complete First Responder Therapy Dog training, and become a member of our peer support team.

The hard truth is that first responders are more likely to die by suicide than in the line of duty. According to the Ruderman Family Foundation, Firefighters and police officers experience PTSD and depression at rates nearly 5 times higher than the general population.

Multiple studies, including one published in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, have proven that just 10 minutes of interaction with a dog can significantly lower cortisol (stress hormone) levels. Therapy animals like Kai have been proven to:
Reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression
Lower blood pressure and heart rate
Provide emotional grounding after traumatic calls
Offer unconditional support where words often fall short

We believe mental health is health and we are committed to breaking the stigma around seeking help. Kai is a step towards building a culture where healing and hope are part of the uniform.

Follow Kai’s journey as she becomes an essential part of our peer support team.
